August 2020 – St. Agnes Orphanage in Tanzania and Nyumbani in Kenya, both of which have children in the Africa Orphan Program, quickly put procedures in place to protect the children and staff and as a result none of the children were infected with the virus. Two staff members at Nyumbani were infected but recovered quickly and returned to work. Nyumbani Village has slowly begun to open up and has a monitoring program in place to ensure the continued protection of all the kids.
The pandemic has resulted in a food shortage for the families in Nyumbani’s Lea Toto program in the slums around Nairobi, Kenya. The Africa Orphan Program was the first organization to respond with a special donation to Nyumbani so Lea Toto could buy food for these families.
